It is with the heaviest of hearts that immediate and extended family announces the passing of their beloved Adam Gregory Thomas on March 18, 2007 at Reno, Nevada. He was born July 6, 1985 in Zanesville. Adam was a senior at the University of Nevada Reno. His areas of study were Political Science and Journalism. He was currently an intern through the UNR Political Science Department at the Nevada State Legislature working for State Senator Michael Schneider. Recently, Adam had the opportunity to present an amendment to the legislature and received high praise for his research and presentation. His area of special interest was health care policy. Adam was a 2003 graduate of Faith Lutheran High School in Las Vegas, Nevada. In high school, he participated in a variety of extracurricular activities such as: Debate, Journalism (Las Vegas Review Journal R-Generation Columnist), Tennis, Lacrosse and Youth Ministry. He had a love for music, playing the guitar with friends and family. He has since been a Reno resident, attending classes year round at Nevada and participating in community events. Over the past three years Adam trained at the Charles Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Reno. Adam earned the prestigious Purple Belt which will be given to him on Thursday. He had become very close to the sport and the people with whom he trained. Adam will always be missed greatly by his immediate and extended family. We have been overwhelmed by the outpour of love and support by those whose life he touched. Words cannot express our appreciation in this time of great sorrow. In order to honor Adam's life we have established The Adam Thomas Memorial Fund. The funds donated will be given to the UNR Foundation for The Adam Thomas Legislative Internship Scholarship Fund and the University of Nevada Political Sciences System. Donations can be made via his account: #153752422540 at any USBANK location. Adam was the son of Kelly Renee Childers Thomas-Boyers (Dr. Jerry) and George G. Thomas Jr., all of Las Vegas, NV. He leaves behind his younger brother, Alec Nelson Thomas of Las Vegas, NV.; three step sisters, Lindsay Boyers, Lauren Boyers and Leslie Boyers, all of Las Vegas; his maternal grandmother, Betty Mae Childers of Nashport; three uncles, Michael (Pat) Childers of Zanesville, Steve (Lynn) Childers of Columbus, OH. and Roger (Dee) Childers of Asheville, NC.; two aunts, Billie (Larry) Tinkham of Westerville and Monica (John) McKay of Columbus and many cousins and extended family members. He will be laid to rest beside his grandfather, Paul S. Childers, in Irville Cemetery, Nashport.
