Barbara was born in Taunton, Massachusetts on February 6, 1936 the daughter of Frank and Mary (Oliveira) Silvia. She was born with no sight and attended and graduated from the Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, Massachusetts, the first school for the blind in America.
She had been employed as an assembly worker for Streeter’s Machine Shop in Hinsdale and previously performed assembly work for the State of New Hampshire.
Barbara was very independent and was known for her outgoing personality and spirit of friendship. She enjoyed attending yard sales and loved dogs and cats.
She was a proud member of the Perkin’s School Alumni Association.
On October 23, 1965 in Brattleboro she was married to Francis Dustin who predeceased her in 1995.
There are no surviving relatives. She leaves two very close and dear friends, Margo Wilkins and her husband Bill of Hinsdale, and Sharon Slipik and her husband Mitch of West Bridgewater, Massachusetts. She also leaves her extended family at Rolling Hills Village and her beloved pet cat “Peaches.”
In keeping with Barbara’s final wishes no services are scheduled. Burial was in Saint Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Taunton, Massachusetts where she was laid to rest next to her late husband and parents.
