Jackie D. Childers, 65, of Hopewell died at 8:00 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2005 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 19, 1939 in Ft. Myers, Florida, a son of the late Alfred & Bessie Burkett Childers. He was a 21 year Veteran of the U.S. Army and had served in Vietnam. Jackie loved to bowl in the Sr. Bowling League at Sunrise Bowl, was a 10 year Foster Parent in Muskingum Co., member of the D.A.V. and American Legion.Surviving are his wife, Penny E. Crawford Childers, whom he married March 14, 1974, five sons, Jackie(Shirley)Childers, Jr. Of New York, Morris A. Lewis of Alabama, Cody Childers, Kaleb Childers and Scott Childers all of the home, five daughters, Penny(Bradley)Harris of Newark, Dorothy(Chris)Paynter, of Zanesville , Robin(Ryan)White of New Concord, Grace Childers and Mary Childers both of the home, a brother, Johnnie Childers of Florida. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Alford Childers. VFW George Selsam Post 1058 will hold full military rites at the grave.
