Ernest W. Behnke of E. Shellmans Dr., Clay, RD 1, a life resident of the area, died yesterday at St. Joseph's Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Behnke, 57, was employed as a glazer for the Syracuse Glass Co. for 25 years. He was a member of the Painters and Glazers Local Union 31. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Marian E. Behnke; a son, John Behnke of New York City; a daughter, Mrs. David Davenport of Michigan; five sisters, Mrs. William Gratien, East Syracuse, Mrs. Sidney Reed, Jamesville, Mrs. R. C. Fish, Pennellville, Mrs. Leonard Smith, North Syracuse, and Mrs. Dominick Santy; four brothers, Charles J., John F. and Robert C., all of North Syracuse, and Edward Behnke of East Syracuse; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Welter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow.

His first wife was Kathleen/Helen Steadman (daughter of widow Hattie Steadman). Their children were Ruth, Kathleen, John, and Edna Marie.
