Marguerite E. Boughton, of Newtown, dies at the age of 101.

Marguerite Boughton beloved wife of the late Alan Boughton, a builder, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, 3 December 2017, surrounded by her family and her six cats that took turns laying with her on her bed. She was especially loved by her cat, Bo, who came every night as mom prepared for bed.

Marguerite was born in Danbury on 14 March 1916, daughter of the late Leonard Sr. and Julia Ann (Saunt) Stelzel. She was a graduate of St. Peter School and Danbury High School.

She and Alan were married on 11 September 1937 living for a short time in Danbury. In 1939, they moved to Stony Hill a remote area of Bethel at the time, living successively in homes Alan built on Hawleyville Road, McNeal Road, Clearview Avenue and Redwood Drive. Many times she would tell the story of how she would walk with her daughter pushing her son in a baby carriage from McNeal Road to Main Street in Danbury to do her shopping. She said, they would always get a ride from a neighbor on the way home. It was not until they were living on Clearview Avenue, in 1952, that she saw the necessity of getting a driving license. She was an original member of the Stony Hill Fire House Women's Auxiliary. She was active in St. Mary School in Bethel.

In 1977, they moved to a home Alan built for them in Newtown and where he died on 17 December 1991. She loved working in the yard and planting all kinds of flowers. She also enjoyed knitting, crafts of all kinds, reading, and in later life just sitting on the porch watching the cars go by, and of course, keeping track of her many dogs and cats.

She will be sadly missed by their children, Peggy Denninger and Barbara Oster, both of Brookfield, Gary Boughton and his wife, Martha Montana of Bethel, and their son, Kenneth of Newtown, with whom she shared her home and her life after Alan passed in 1991. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband she was predeceased, their son, Ronald; their sons-in-law Robert V. Denninger and William C. Oster Jr.; her three younger brothers, Leonard, Clayton, and Harold (Jim) Stelzel and their wives; her husband's brothers, Robert & Donald Boughton, and their wives.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, December 7th at 11:00 am at Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.

My friend, my pal, mom will be missed till we meet again.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Masonicare Hospice, especially nurses, Sue, Nancy and Maria; Dr. Schwartz; and volunteer, Claudia.

Donations in her memory may be made to Masonicare Hospice
