Carolyn Ray Waikel, 84, of Laramie, Wyoming, died Saturday, December 2, 2017, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Wolcottville, Indiana.

She was born December 25, 1932, in Huntington, Indiana, to Howard and Evelyn (Hildebrand) Herzog.

After graduating from Huntington High School in 1951, she worked at Western Union in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

In 1952 she married Gerald (Jerry) A. Waikel. They were residents of North Webster, Indiana, for several years. When Jerry retired from the State Police in 1976, they moved to Laramie, Wyoming.

She worked as an accounting assistant, and was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Cathedral and was involved in making crafts and prayer quilts.

She is survived by her two daughters, Rhonda (Tom) Lund of Laramie, Wyoming, and Monica (Pete) Hochstetler of Wolcottville, Indiana; two granddaughters, Leslie Lund of Laramie, Wyoming, and Rachel Nelson of Delaware; and her sister, Barbara Kline of Huntington, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Bill; her husband, Jerry; and grandson, Brian.

She will be interred at the St. Matthews Columbarium in Laramie, Wyoming.

Memorial services will be held at a later date. Donations are accepted in Carolyn’s memory to Cathedral Home for Children, 4989 North 3rd Street, Laramie, Wyoming, 82072.
