Stanley Ivan Garner was born on November 8, 1936 in Beloit, Wisconsin. He was the fourth child born to James W. and Blanche Edna (Ellis) Garner. He had brothers Richard and Robert and a sister Hazel. All of the family were members of the Manchester Free Church, Manchester Road, South Beloit, IL.

Stan attended country schools in the area and then Capron High School, graduating in 1955. He worked on the farm with his father and brothers and had to have his chores finished before getting on the school bus at 6:30 a.m. While in high school, he was on the school paper staff, was a member of the FFA, played in the band and was in the school play. He had a good voice and enjoyed singing, sometimes for weddings and funerals and in the church choir.

After graduation, he went to work in the inspection dept. at Besly-Welles in South Beloit and then transferred to maintenance and truck driving. It was while working at Besly's that he met Dorothy Oftedahl and they were married on December 15, 1956.

After they were married, they lived in Sharon, WI and had 2 sons, James Russell and Donald Stanley and a daughter Lynne Marie.

In 1959 Stan left his job at Besly-Welles and went to work at Sharon Foundry first in the molding dept. and then as a foreman and then a truck driver. In 1966 Stan and Dorothy opened the Gambles store in Sharon. Dorothy ran the store while Stan continued working at the foundry until his death.

In 1968 he was diagnosed with Hepatic Renal Polycystic Disease and passed away on October 25, 1970 - just 2 weeks before his 34th birthday.

Stan loved to dance and was a member of the Harvard Moose Lodge. He was the assistant fire chief for the Sharon Volunteer Fire Department and helped to restore a 1936 Peter Pirsch fire truck. This truck was used in place of a hearse at his funeral. Nearly every fire department in the area was represented at his funeral and formed an honor guard.
