Four people were killed Friday when their pickup turned in front of an oncoming train south of Nowata.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported Marvin Ashford, 48, Bronson, Kans.; Ronald Gene Manley, 46, Nowata; Gary Wayne Manley, 23, Nowata; and Arthur Lee Layton, 24, Delaware, were dead on arrival at Nowata General Hospital.
All four died from massive head and internal injuries received when their pickup crashed into a train on a county road near Talala. The OHP reports Ashford, the driver of the pickup, was northbound on U.S. 169 and turned onto a county road in front of a Missouri-Pacific train. The accident occurred at 6:12 p.m. Friday.
Ronald Manley, Ashford's brother-in-law, was listed as a passenger in the pickup, along with his son-in-law Arthur Layton, and his son Gary Manley.
The train reportedly consisted of two engines and a caboose. The pickup was thrown 165 feet, and overturned one and a half times, landing on its roof. The four victims were pinned inside the wreckage for an hour and fifteen minutes.
