TREMONT ~ Norma Sue Williams, 80, of Tremont, passed away at 1:10 p.m. Thursday, December 14, 2017 surrounded by her family at Reflections Memory Care in Pekin.

Born April 20, 1937 in Harrison, Arkansas to Roy Thurman and Nancy Madora (Morton) Flippin, she married Jess R. Williams on July 9, 1966 in Flippin, Arkansas. He survives.

Also surviving are twin sons, Brian K. (Michele) Williams and Bruce K. (Michelle) Williams, both of Tremont; three grandchildren, Jennifer S. Williams, Jacob B. Williams and Stephanie E. Williams and one brother, R.T. Flippin of Beaumont, Texas. She also leaves two brothers-in-law, Gene (Sharon) Williams of Pekin and Larry (Judy) Williams of Wesley Chapel, Florida; three sisters-in-law, Phyllis Sauter of Manito, Donna Bradshaw of Pekin and Wilma Jean Williams of Kenosha, Wisconsin and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Gertrude McCowan.

A 1955 graduate of Flippin High School, Sue graduated in 1959 from Graham Hospital School of Nursing in Canton and became a Registered Nurse.

She worked as a Case Manager for the State of Illinois Department of Public Aid for 35 years, retiring in 1994 from the Tazewell County office. She previously worked for Peoria State Hospital when she first completed nursing training.

Sue was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Groveland. She formerly served the church in the nursery and by making Afghans for new infants born into the church. She loved reading, working crossword puzzles, doing cross stitch and travelling.

Sue will be remembered for her devotion to family. She loved and adored her grandchildren and called them “her brats.”

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Groveland. Pastor Mark Mincy will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin, and also from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church, 18040 Unsicker Road, Groveland, IL 61535 or to Alzheimer’s Association, Central Illinois Chapter, 614 West Glen Avenue, Peoria, IL 61614.
