JOHN NICHOLSON OF WINNEBAGO IS DEAD
Prominent Farmer Passes Away After Several Weeks' Illness.
WINNEBAGO, June 29. - John Nicolson, a prominent farmer of this section, died at an early hour this morning, following several weeks' illness superinduced by an attack of paralysis suffered some time ago.
Mr. Nicolson was born in Lanarkshire, Scotland, April 16, 1833. When seven years of age he moved with his parents to Campbeltown, Scotland. In 1858 he came to Illinois and located on what is now the Putney farm in Winnebago and he has lived there continuously ever since.
In 1864 he married Miss Agnes Harvey, who died the following year, leaving one daughter, Agnes, who now resides in Gerry, N. Y. He was married again on September 17, 1872, to Miss Mary Armour, who died in 1906.
Five children were born by this marriage, Margaret, Neil, William, John and Mary. John died in 1896. Two brothers, George of New Castle, England, and Andrew of White Rock, Illinois, also survive.
Early in life Mr. Nicolson identified himself with the established church of Scotland, transferring his membership to the Presbyterian society of Rockford, then to the First Presbyterian church of Winnebago.
Mr. Nicolson had many sterling traits of character and was known and respected for his strict integrity and upright dealings with his fellowmen. As a husband and a father he measured up to the highest standards, being always intensely devoted to his family.
Funeral serviceswill be held from the home at 1:30 o'clock. Rev. J. W. White of the First Presbyterian church, and Rev. M. E. Axtell, a former pastor, will conduct the services. Interment will be in the Winnebago cemetery.
