American theologian, Presbyterian minister and hymn writer.
His father was founder of Park College in Parkville, Missouri where he graduated in 1884. He graduated from Union Theological Seminary in New York and served as professor philosophy and choir directory, pastor and dean of Park College until 1901. Ministered First Presbyterian Church of Chicago and Lafayette Avenue Church of Brooklyn, NY. He taught systematic theology at McCormick Theological Seminary.
