Obituary for Eileen Mary Mathia

Eileen Mary Mathias was born April 16, 1945 in Wall Lake, Iowa the daughter of Edward and Edith (Schrad) Baumhover.

She graduated from Wall Lake High School with the Class of 1963. On October 1, 1965 Eileen was united in marriage to Franklin Mathias in Waterloo, Iowa. The couple lived in Waterloo, Iowa, Texas and Maryland while Frank served his country during Vietnam. The couple moved to Knoxville, Iowa in April of 1969. They entered a partnership with Franks’ brother, Don Mathias selling new GM automobiles. In 1974 Eileen and Frank assumed sole ownership of Mathias Motors at their newly built location on highway 14 south in Knoxville. Eileen was the bookkeeper for Mathias Motors for 20 years. She and Frank eventually expanded their dealership to include Ford products, before selling the business in September 2001.

Eileen was a master gardener and enjoyed tending to her flower gardens at the home she and Frank built near Harvey, Iowa. She was also a talented seamstress. Above all else, Eileen will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Eileen passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at the Mercy Medical Center, in Des Moines, at the age of 72.
Those left to cherish Eileen’s memory include her loving husband of 52 years, Frank; children: Yvonne (Ray) Vermillion of Anacortes, Washington; Frank B. (Cheyenne) of Knoxville and Felix (Jody) of Knoxville; grandchildren: Fawkes Mathias and AnnaRose Mathias; step-grandchildren: Tori and Trevon Johnson; siblings: Robert (JoAnn) Baumhover of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Ronald Baumhover of Livermore, Colorado and Richard (Kathy) Baumhover of Wall Lake, Iowa and many other family members and friends.
