Mr. Grover B. "Benny" Burks, age 87 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away on Monday, December 11, 2017 at SSM Health St. Mary's Health Center.
Benny was born on July 20, 1930 in Columbus, Kansas the son of Theodore and Roxie Ellen (James) Burks.
On November 10, 1954 in Rolla, Mo., Benny married the love of his life, Betty Lewis.
Shortly after his birth, Benny and his family moved to Crocker, Mo. and later to Rolla Mo. where he graduated from the Rolla High School in 1948. Following graduation, Benny attended the Iberia Junior College and studied business and accounting.
He served two years in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1952 until he was honorably discharged in 1954.
Benny moved to Jefferson City in 1954, and he was employed for over forty years with the Capital Reserve Life Insurance Company prior to his retirement in 1995.
He was a charter member of Capital City Christian Church.
Benny will always be remembered for the way he loved to tease his children and grandchildren and his concern for making sure they had everything they needed.
Survivors include: his wife of sixty-three years, Betty Burks; three children, Vicki Walz of Jefferson City, Mo., Darla Noble and her husband John of Rogersville, Mo., and Steve Burks and his wife Annette of Jefferson City, Mo.; five grandchildren, Zach Noble and his wife Rebecca, Elizabeth Vandivert and her husband Craig, Olivia Peters, Emma Waggoner and her husband Dwight, and Skyla Burton; seven great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Noble, Macy Noble, Laney Vandivert, Landrey Vandivert, Rueben Peters, Esther Waggoner, and Henley Jo Waggoner; and a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Pete and Wanda Lewis; three brothers, George, Garreth, and Harold; three sisters, Gertrude, Helen, and Wynette, and one son-in-law, Jeff Walz.
Visitation will be at the Capital City Christian Church from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 15, 2017.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 15, 2017 at the Capital City Christian Church with the Reverend Don Lewis and the Reverend Don Fankhauser officiating.
Graveside services and interment with military honors will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Shiloh Christian Youth Ranch, P.O. Box 606, Shelbina, Mo. 63468.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
