Shirley June Drom, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away July 18, 2012. She was born on June 30, 1930 in New Lisbon, Wisconsin. She attended New Lisbon public schools and Milwaukee State Teacher’s College. Shirley married her high school sweetheart, Arlyn D. Drom (Augie), on September 8th, 1951. Augie first eyed Shirley when they both were playing in the New Lisbon band. Shirley played the drums and Augie, the tuba. Augie always said that she was the prettiest girl in New Lisbon. She and Augie were a great team, relying on each other to create a joyous life. They were two small town kids who did really well in love and in life. She and Augie were blessed with five daughters. Shirley loved being a mother and was so proud of all of her girls. Nothing gave her more joy than sharing their lives and watching them grow up. To Shirley, family was everything. She loved and supported her children unconditionally. She was a great listener and loved to hear about everything that was happening in their lives. She truly was the center of the family. The family moved around the country for Augie’s work and Shirley kept the family together; organizing the move, orchestrating all of the details and keeping everyone and everything in line. No matter where they moved, every house felt like a home within a few days or weeks of arriving, thanks to mom. She truly was a great homemaker. Shirley loved to create beautiful spaces in her home. She collected antiques and had an eye for style. She respected things that were once loved by others and she gave them a new life in her home. She enjoyed all the little things in life. She loved the changes of the seasons, from seeing her favorite flower, lily of the valley, pop up in the spring, to the turning of the leaves in the fall, to the first snowfall. On her many trips to Jackson Hole, she would always delight in seeing moose, elk, antelope, eagles and buffalo. She loved to travel. Many good times were had traveling across the US every summer on family trips. She was also excited to visit Hawaii, Mexico and Europe. She loved to experience and learn about new places, delighting in all of the beauty that she saw in her travels. Holidays and birthdays were a favorite time for Shirley and her family. Every occasion was always special, thanks to her thoughtfulness and love. She prided herself in creating a beautiful setting and atmosphere in which everyone was able to enjoy themselves. Whether it was baking angel food cakes for birthdays, serving cranberry sauce in her mother’s green glass bowl at Thanksgiving, or the beautiful Christmas tree she decorated every year, she had a gift for creating lasting family traditions. Shirley was an amazing person. She touched many lives with her love, compassion and thoughtfulness. We will all miss her so much. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents Mabel Laura (Priar) Rabuck and Arthur Royal Rabuck (New Lisbon, WI); her brother Robert William Rabuck (New Lisbon, WI); and half-brother Frederick A.
