Bonnie Marie Cook, 94, long time Turlock resident, passed away, after a brief illness, December 27, with family by her side at Doctors Hospital in Manteca.
Bonnie, the daughter of Richard and Winifred Weeks, was born in Oakland, California, and raised in Piedmont. She graduated from Piedmont High School and the University of California, Berkeley where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and junior Bell of the Ball. While attending Cal, she met Jeremy Cook. They corresponded while he was on active duty in the Navy during World War II and married in 1946.
After graduation from Cal, Bonnie became a social worker for Alameda County until she and Jeremy started a family. After the birth of their first son, Jeremy Cook, Jr., they moved to Turlock where Jeremy could practice law with his father, W. Coburn Cook. Their family grew with the addition of Roger and Robin.
Bonnie was an avid bridge player who loved completing crossword puzzles, cooking, gardening, golf, reading fiction books, traveling with her numerous friends, and spending time with family and acquaintances. She was the oldest- standing member and past president of the Tuesday Afternoon Reading Club. She was also an active member of the Saint Francis Episcopal Church Women, National PanHellenic Conference, Frugals, and a former Cub Scout den mother.
The Cooks’ home, of over 60 years, was her pride and joy where she loved entertaining and hosting holiday gatherings with family and friends. She had fun decorating for all seasons, especially at Christmas when she transformed her home into a winter wonderland. Bonnie will be remembered for her fun-loving personality, her zest for life, and her mischievous sense of humor.
In her 80s, after being widowed over 20 years, she reconnected with a high school friend and became Mrs. J. Ross Reagan in 2006. She has been able to stay in the home she loved due to the care of Lia Valadao, Marie Mancebo, Val Bettencourt and Diana Kaysen.
She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Superior Court Judge Jeremy Cook; sister, Gwendolyn Armstrong Dayton; and second husband, J. Ross Reagan. Bonnie’s three children survive her: Jeremy Cook, Jr. (Lorna); Roger Cook (Twila); and Robin Wheeler (Steve), who all will greatly miss her. Five granddaughters include: Laura (Cook) Lyons, Amy (Cook) Hess, Melissa Cook, Kellie Wheeler, and Bonnie Wheeler. Bonnie’s four great-grandsons are: Grayson Lyons, Lincoln Lyons, Preston Lyons and Roger Hess.
She was privately inurned at Turlock Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, February 10, 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the home of Jeremy Cook, Jr., 801 Colorado Avenue, Turlock. Remembrances, in her name, may be sent to the Salvation Army or a favorite charity.
