Nesby Clio "Cannonball" Adkison, 94, of Port St Joe, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Bay Medical Center in Panama City. He was born on May 8, 1923 in Enterprise, AL to Amon and Lula (Martin) Adkison. They later moved to a farm in Vernon, FL. Mr. Adkison was a man of many skills and talents. In his early years he farmed, worked at a cotton mill, a peanut mill, cut and hauled pulpwood, worked at a body shop, did road construction, was a policeman and was a self-taught musician. He was a veteran serving in the United States Marines. In 1955, he started working for the A&N Railroad in Port St. Joe where he lived for the past 62 years. He retired in 1995 from the railroad with 40 years of service. Mr. Adkison was a member of Long Avenue Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Amon and Lula Adkison; a son, Jack Adkison; four siblings, Mildred Wilson, Homer Adkison, Jean Newton and Carnette Adkison. Mr. Adkison is survived by his wife of 71 yrs., Layla Jean (Brooks) Adkison; eight children, Ann Seizmore (Red) of Apalachicola, FL, Judy Rowe (Skip) of Valdosta, GA, Perry Adkison (Janie) of Atlanta, GA, Martin Adkison (Janice) of Port St. Joe, FL, Vic Adkison (Nan) of Thomasville, AL, Mary Dell Baker (Gene) of Mexico Beach, FL, Martha Daniels (Roy) of Wewahitchka and Chris Adkison (Traci) of Tallahassee, FL; one sibling, Lincy Wall of Enterprise, AL. He was called "Granddaddy Choo-Choo" by his 23 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. EST, Friday, December 22, 2017 at Long Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Eli Prine officiating. Interment will follow in Holly Cemetery.
