Walt was born 24 Nov. 1922, in Sioux City, the son of Henry & Ophelia "Effie" (Taffilla) Bekish Archip. He graduated from Central High School in 1941 & attended Morningside College. He was an aviation cadet with the Naval Aviation Corp, serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Later, he served in the Merchant Marines, under the Coast Guard, in both theater wars.
He married Frances Stepin on 13 Jan. 1944, in Sioux City. He worked in the control packing office at Armour for many years. Later, he worked for the Sioux City Community School District.
His hobbies included raising & selling tropical fish & birds. He introduced tropical fish to the Sioux City area. He was affiliated with Lincoln Feed & Seed at one time. He also was a avid gardener.
Survivors include his wife, Frances; 2 sons & wives, Dan (Judy) Archip of Minburn, IA. & Mike (Stacey) Archip of Arlington, TX.; 2 daughters & husbands, Stephanie (Jim) Jotzke of Delmont, PA. & Lorrie (Roger) Tripp of Floyd, IA.; a sister, Toni St. Cyr of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; & many nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Zena Pearce & Vera Monroe; a brother, Henry Archip; & an infant granddaughter, Jennifer Jotzke.
