Eugénie Mayer was a soprano at the Opéra Comique in Paris and a well known singing teacher. She married her former teacher Manuel Garcia Junior, the brother of the singers Malibran and Pauline Viardot. She and Manuel had four children, but their union was unhappy and they separated in 1848.

She died in Paris in 1880 and was buried at Père Lachaise. Her children Manuel and Maria (1842-1867) were buried in the same grave.
