Mr. James Pollard, a well-known member of the Baltimore bar, died early yesterday morning, at his home near Ilchester. The funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon at his late residence, 821 North Eutaw street, at 3.30 o'clock.

Mr. Pollard began the practice of law in Baltimore more than thirty ago. He was a man of broad interests and was active in religious, temperance and educational movements. He received the prohibition nomination at one time for attorney-general. He was a deacon of the Eutaw Place Baptist Church and for several years was president of the State convention of Maryland Baptists, and was also a member of the executive committee of the American Baptist Educational Society.

Mr. Pollard was a Virginian and was descended from the Pollards who were conspicuous in the colonial history of the State. He was born in King and Queen county November 2, 1842. His mother, Jobet Jeffries, was a sister of Hon. J. F. Jeffries, a prominent jurist of Virginia. His father was Col. John Pollard. Mr. James Pollard received his education at Stevensville Academy, Va., and at Columbian University, District of Columbia, where he graduated from both the scientific and the law departments. He was in the Confederate army during the civil war, and was with the Army of Northern Virginia from the battle of Seven Pines to the close of the war. He settled in Baltimore soon after his marriage, in 1870, with Miss Susie Tyler, a daughter of Dr. G. M. Tyler. ...
