Josephine R. Merando, 89, Frontenac, died at 2:45 p.m. Monday, Aug. 28, 2006, at St. John's Regional Medical Center, Joplin, after a long illness.
She was born July 28, 1917, in Breezy Hill to Fredrico and Assunta (Farneti) Arcana, and attended area schools.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Altar Society.
On Aug. 29, 1934, she married Antone "Tony" Merando in Carthage, Mo. He preceded her in death on July 6, 1977.
Survivors include two daughters, Joann Wattelet of Frontenac and Sandra Hunt of Afton, Okla.; one son, Chester Merando of Frontenac; two sisters, Velia Polsak of Arma and Pearl Dykstra of Chicago, Ill.; 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Joseph Arcana; her stepfather, Chester Biancarelli; and sisters Manta Sitter, Gena Chelesnik and Yolanda Manderfield.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, 2006, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Frontenac, with Fr. Robert McElwee as celebrant.
Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery in rural Pittsburg.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Friskel Funeral Home, 230 E. McKay, Frontenac, where the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. today.
The family will be at the home of Joann Wattelet, 112 S. Hickory Street, Frontenac.
