Catherine M. Schema, age 90, formerly of rural Kiel died peacefully early Thursday morning, August 28, 2014, at Rivers Bend Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Catherine was born November 6, 1923, in the town of Centerville daughter of the late William and Katherine (Schramm) Rettela. She grew up in St. Wendel attending grade school there. Catherine then attended Central High School in Sheboygan graduating in 1941. She moved to St. Nazianz to work at the Salvatorian Seminary Publishing Dept. It was there in St. Nazianz she met and married Aaron Schema on September 2, 1942, at St. Wendel Catholic Church. Aaron gave her the nickname "Blondie" to which she was known by many in the St. Nazianz area. They farmed together until his death on August 1, 1976. She remained active in farming until 2001. Catherine devoted her life to her family and the farm, enjoying milking cows and raising calves. She loved to read and keep up with current events and being outdoors in the sun. She was a member of St. Gregory Parish, St. Nazianz and a former member of the Christian Mothers.

Survivors include five sons and three daughters-in-law: Jim Schema, rural Kiel; Aaron Schema, Walworth, WI; Peter and Carol Schema, Carl and Karen Schema, and Lewis and Debra Schema all of rural Kiel; 16 grandchildren: Jesse (Bonnie) Schema, Jason Schema, Joel Schema, Jillian Schema, Chris (Julie) Schema, David Schema, Allan (Kathy) Schema, Ben Schema, Arik (Judy) Schema, Angie (Eric) Thiel, Andrea (Dirk) Horne, Audra (Steven) Wiser, Jeremy Schema, Dan Schema, Peggy (Paul) Tyson and Kerri (Nathan) Kraft. She was also survived by 16 great grandchildren; one sister: Helen Bolz, Milwaukee; and sister-in-law: Hattie Schema, St. Nazianz. Many nieces, and nephews also survive.

She was also preceded in death by an infant son: Lester; infant grandson, Justin; brothers: Walter (Gertrude) Rettela, William Jr. Rettela; brother-in-law: Gilbert Bolz; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Evelyn (John) Ruppel, Norman Schema, Dolores (Elton) Jelinek, and Catherine (Norbert) Muelhbauer.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at St. Gregory Catholic Church in St. Nazianz. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Patrick Nelson, SDS with burial to follow at the church cemetery.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at St. Gregory Church from 1:00 p.m. until 3:45 p.m.
