Eli Denson Adkins, age 80, of Gadsden, who passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation services announcing.
Eli was born August 2, 1937 in Goree, Texas and grew up in Plainview, Texas. He attended Plainview High School and graduated in 1955. After graduation, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1955-1959. Thereafter, he returned to his hometown and married Donna Gail Billington in 1959. He then attended Lipperts Business College and studied court reporting. He moved first to Marshall County, AL and served as a court reporter for approximately 5 years. He then moved to Etowah County in the late 1960's and enjoyed a long successful career as a court reporter to the Honorable James B. Waid, the Honorable William Cardwell and lastly the Honorable Will Clay.
Eli never met a stranger and always greeted friends and family with a smile and warm hug. He will be sorely missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. & Mrs. A.L. Adkins; and brother, Billy Guy Adkins all from Plainview, Texas.
Mr. Adkins is survived by his wife of 58 years, Donna Adkins; daughters, Randee Adkins Cole, and Julie Adkins Martin both of Birmingham, AL; grandson, Eli Joseph Cole; granddaughter, Rachel Hannah Martin; sisters, Joan Lagerstram of Atlanta, GA, and Nonie McClure of Huntsville, AL; brother, Weldon Adkins of Paris, Texas, and Jim Adkins of Houston, TX; many nieces and nephews; and his Etowah County Courthouse family whom he loved dearly, and the lifelong friends he made in the Navy.
