Henry Clay Foster was born in Augusta in 1844. He was the third son of the late John Foster and was a pupil of Mr. Snowden of the Augusta Free School. He enlisted in the Oglethorpe Infantry and served in the war. He studied law in the office of Wm A. Walton. He was elected to the Legislature with Hon. Partick Walsh and Hon. Walter A. Clark serving from 1870 - 1872. He later served in the lawfirm of Joseph Lamar. His first wife was Miss Mary Jones. His second wife was Mrs. Adelia Key. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and Knights of Honor.
