In December 1908, they moved to Little Rock, Bourbon County. Appears to have been an exchange as Bert Saunders moved from Little Rock in the house vacated by Will and his family. By 1910, they were living in Flat Rock, Bourbon Co., Kentucky, next door to William’s parents. William was working a rented farm and supporting his wife and son. Although his mother-in-law was part of the household, she was independent, having her “own income”.
In 1918, William signed his WWI Draft Registration by mark. He was living off Route 1 out of Carlisle, Kentucky, farming, and described as tall and stout with brown eyes and black hair. In 1920, William’s address was given as String Town Pike in Flat Rock where he was working a rented farm. By 1930, William and Josie had moved to Glade Township in Madison Co., Kentucky. When his father died in 1931, William was living in Lexington, Fayette Co., Kentucky, where he apparently remained.
William died on 13 October 1946 at the Eastern State Hospital in Lexington and was buried in Bourbon Co., Kentucky. Josie died on 25 November 1957 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington and was buried four days later in North Middletown Cemetery.
William and Josie were survived by their children: William Earl, Beulah Bertha, Earnest Franklin, Sudie Daisy, Shirley Ferguson, and Lottie Rose Grace, all since deceased. They were predeceased by two unidentified infants, and by Mattie in 1916, and Russell Hord in 1919.
