Mary Odessa Bell Jacobs, 94, of 6582 N US Hwy 421, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2018 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.
A funeral service will be held at 2 P.M., Thursday, January 11, 2018 at New Bethel Baptist Church with the Reverend Terry Cummings and Reverend Charles Locklear officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at New Bethel Baptist Church and at other times at the home of her son, Philip, at 870 Beaver Dam Road, Clinton.
Mary, born in 1923 in Robeson County, was the daughter of the late John Wesley Jacobs and Margaret Oxendine Jacobs and attended New Hope Church near Pates. She graduated from Pembroke State College for Indians in 1945. She was a teacher at East Carolina Indian School, Herring School ,Midway Elementary School and a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by; husbands, James Daniel Bell and Herman Jacobs; son, Mark Anthony Bell; and siblings, Kenlaw Jacobs,Henry Jacobs, Oscar Jacobs, Earl Jacobs, Marolee Brewer, Cattie Belle Bullard, Callie Locklear, Parree Patrick, Carlee Jones, Ann Norris, John “Sam” Wes Jacobs, and Phoda Godwin.
She is survived by; sons, James “Danny” Daniel Bell, Jr. (Elizabeth) of Chapel Hill and Philip Dexter Bell (Priscilla) of Clinton; grandchildren, Diana Bell, Daniel Bell, Maeve Bell, and Christopher Bell (Kayla); and great-grandchildren, Brennon Bell and Gray Bell.
