His awards and honors include the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath, the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George, the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire, the Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, the Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour (France), the Grand Officer of the Order of the Crown of Italy, and the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Isabella the Catholic (Spain). He died at the age of 75. A memorial was erected in his honor at St. Peter Church in Yoxford, Suffolk, England.
