James Van Ess
(1957 - 2010)

James Van Ess, age 52, of 5616 County Road U, Newton, was called home to Jesus on Friday, April 16, 2010, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.

Jim was born on Dec. 26, 1957, in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He was the son of the late L. Dewey and Mary Lou Goulder Van Ess. Jim was a graduate of Green Bay East High School with the class of 1976. He had been employed with Biebels Super Market in Green Bay as a meat cutter. He then became employed with Holsom Bakery as a supervisor for approximately eight years. In 1992, he followed his dream and purchased Newton Meats. Jim married Karean Humlicek on Sweetest Day, Oct. 20, 1979, in Green Bay. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and served on the board of directors for the Wisconsin Association of Meat Processors. His passion was for the love of his wife and children. Jim was fortunate to have his dream of owning his own meat market, enjoying the smiles of his customers and taking great pride in his product creation.

He is survived by his wife: Karean; four children: Keith Van Ess, Newton; Steven Van Ess, Newton; Janil Van Ess of Newton and her fiance Jeromy Rueger, Appleton; Peter Van Ess, Newton; two brothers: Dave Van Ess and special friend Lana McCollough, Green Bay; Tom (Cindi) Van Ess, Green Bay; one sister: Susan (Mike) Charles, Green Bay; mother-in-law: Jean Humlicek, Green Bay; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 6 p.m. Monday, April 19, 2010, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 8100 Brunner Road, Newton. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. William Ribbens. Burial will take place at St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery, Northeim. Relatives and friends may call at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church on Monday from 3 p.m. until the time of services at 6 p.m.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorials be directed to a memorial fund being established in Jim's name.

The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home and Crematory, North 11th and St. Clair streets, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
