Edwin Majkrzak Sr, age 90 of Kiel passed away peacefully in his home on Friday, January 12th . He was born January 7th, 1928 in Portage County Wisconsin, the son of Albert and Hattie Gromala Majkrzak. In 1934, the family moved to Marathon County, where Ed later graduated from a one room grade school. He attended Mosinee High School for three years, then left to help full time on the family farm. In 1949, he left the farm and moved to Chicago, where he worked various factory jobs. In the summer of 1951, he met Mary Ann Schuh and on May 17th, 1952 they married at St. Peter and Paul Church in Kiel. The couple lived in Skokie Illinois, where they purchased a service station / car wash business which they operated until November of 1963, when they moved to Kiel Wisconsin. Life went smoothly until May 7th 1985, when Ed was stricken with Guilliam-Barre Syndrome. After being hospitalized for six months, he came home with limited used of his limbs. Still, in the fall of 1987, Ed returned to work at the Stoelting Company, where he remained employed until he retired in 1990.

Survivors include Mary Ann, his wife of 65 years, son Edwin Jr. of Kiel, grandson Matthew of Bemidji, Minnesota, along with many nieces and nephews and three sister in laws, Angie, Wanda and Lucille Schuh. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, brothers Leo (Margaret) , Edward (Margaret), Stanley (Margaret) and Mike (Helen, Bea), sisters Albie (Henry), Bernice (Peter), Martha (James) and Jeanie (Henry), his sister in law Geraldine (Floyd), and brothers in law Edward (Helen), Henry, Eugene and Gerald. Edwin was the last surviving member of the Albert and Hattie Gromola Majkrzak family of nine.

Funeral services for Ed will be held at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Kiel at noon on Tuesday January 16th. Family and friends may call at the Church the day of the funeral from 9:30 am until 11:45 am. Burial will take place in the Church cemetery following the services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ed’s name to the Kiel Fire Department, the Kiel Library or the Kiel Historical Society.

Ed wishes to pass along a final heartfelt thank you to all who helped him during his years battling with Guillian-Barre. Forming a list of those to thank is impossible, for those not mentioned, please know your help was valued. At the top of the list Ed wanted to thank was his wife Mary Ann for sticking by his side and doing whatever she could to comfort and support him. Additionally, Ed remembered his son Edwin, his Grandson Matthew and all his nieces and nephews for their love and support. Others Ed wanted to mention who were in his heart, the Kiel Library Staff who went out of their way to accommodate him while he undertook his many historical research projects, and the members of the Kiel Historical Society. Among the names Ed recalled he wanted to single out were Bob Domagalski, Rose (sic..Rosemary) Moldsom (sic..Mohnsam), Dolores Schultz, Brad Vogel, Carolyn Johnson, Nancy Zimmerman, Kenny Smasal and all the countless others who shared his passion and interest in the history of Kiel. Additional groups Ed was wanted to thank were the morning coffee group at McDonalds, his many friends from the ‘greatest generation’ who preceded him in death, all his neighbors, his friends and co-workers at St. Vincent de Paul Resale Store, and the many members of the Kiel Fire Department, of which Ed was a long time member. Late in life, Ed was blessed to some of the finest treatment he could have hoped for from Willowdale and then the Calumet County Hospice staff, a special thanks to Sara, Amber, and Karen. Ed also wanted to acknowledge the many people he did not know, often small children who would hold doors open for him when they realized he was incapacitated.

To all his family, friends and neighbors, may God love and bless each and everyone of you.
