James "Abbie" L. Ableiter, age 75, of Cloquet, formerly of Wrenshall, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Essentia Health Care in Duluth.

He was born February 8, 1940 in Humbird, WI to Archie and Ilene (Conaway) Ableiter.

Jim graduated from Wrenshall High School and served in the U.S. Army and Reserves. He was united in marriage to Velda Robb on January 14, 1989 in Wrenshall.

Jim enjoyed motorcycling, playing cards and cribbage. He had a great sense of humor, positive attitude and loved helping others, and visiting with family and friends. Jim was a member of the Nicholson-Sellgren VFW Post 2962 of Carlton and the AmVets.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Donald Ableiter; sister, Mariann McKibbon; and grandson, Jason Petite Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Velda; son, Jason "Duke" (Shelly Dubla) Ableiter; daughters, Nicole "Coco" (Jamie Eklov) Jorgenson and Jodi "Bud" (Guy McFatridge) Ableiter; step-daughters, Michelle (Leif) Eggen and Gail (Don) VanGuilder; 9 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held Saturday, August 8, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. Military Honors will be presented by the Nicholson-Sellgren VFW Post Honor Guard at 1:00 p.m.
