Manitowoc - Mary K. (Mahnke) Wu, age 97, a Manitowoc resident, died Sunday, January 14, 2018 at The Bay @ North Ridge Medical & Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc.
She was born on May 12, 1920 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Fredrick and Alice (Gleason) Mahnke. Mary was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School, Class of 1938. She was employed at the Manitowoc Sheriff's Department for more than four decades as a radio operator, secretary/bookkeeper and deputy sheriff. Mary and her twin sister, Peggy, devoted many hours to the Christmas program every year that provided Christmas toys and food to families in need. She was also a member of the Eagles Women's Auxiliary for many years.
Survivors include four nieces: Ann (Bill) Thompson, Crivitz, WI., Sue (Ronald) Leschke, Connie (Roger) Kubichka, Shelly Lyon; and three nephews: Richard (JoAnn) Herman, Michael (Ellie) Engelbrecht, Jim (Kathie) Herman, all of Manitowoc. Also surviving are great and great great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by a twin sister: Margaret "Peggy" (Harry) Herman; a sister: Helen (Elmer) Engelbrecht and a nephew: Thomas Herman.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 18, 2018 at The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Service will be Deacon Alan Boeldt with burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 9:30 a.m. Thursday, January 18, 2018 until 10:30 a.m.
