Mary Alves, 100, of 1748 Highland Ave., formerly of John F. Kennedy Terrace, Somerset, died Sunday at the Fall River Nursing Home.
She was the widow of Joseph Alves.
Born in Rehoboth, a daughter of the late Manuel and Anna (Serpa) Magan, she moved to Dighton after marriage, later moved to Swansea, and had been a Somerset resident for many years.
Mrs. Alves was a communicant of St. John of God Church, Somerset, and a member of its Holy Rosary Society.
She was the last master of the Somerset Grange, and was a founding member of the Somerset Historical Society. She organized, and for many years directed, the Drum & Bugle Corps of St. John of God Church.
She was a past president of the Portuguese-American Social Club and the John F. Kennedy Senior Citizens Club. She was an honorary member of the Swansea Grange, and a member of the Council of Women's Organizations, the South Somerset Women's Club, the Swansea Holy Ghost Brotherhood, the Somerset Amvets Auxiliary 72, the Daughters of Isabella and St. Patrick Circle 335, Somerset.
Mrs. Alves was a practical nurse in Swansea many years ago, and assisted the late Dr. Kellogg.
She is survived by a son, a sister, a brother, two grandsons, four great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
