Officer Leonard "Leo" R. DeVere, DSN 3463, received his commission on 03/09/1959. Officer DeVere served in the following districts and specialized units during his career. They were the Personal Section, 5Th, 4Th, 5Th, Homicide Section, and finally the 4Th District. Officer DeVere received 1 Chief's Letter of Commendation on 11/12/1982 while he was a detective in the Homicide Unit for exceptional performance above the call of duty. Officer DeVere retired on 11/16/1986 having served 27 years, 8 months, and 7 days of faithful and dedicated service to the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

Officer DeVere was a veteran of the United States Army and served from 07/1956 to 07/1958 and achieved the rank of Specialist 4Th Class.

Dearest brother of Sergeant Edward DeVere, DSN 2614, who is also a retiree of the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

Leo DeVere, 81, passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2018. Beloved husband of JoAnn (nee Bruder) DeVere, for 60 years; loving father of Kelly (Ted), Pat (Jamie), and Pam (Chad); cherished grandpa to Teddy, Blake, and Madison. Dear brother, cousin and friend to many.


Arrangements under the direction of the Hutchens-Stygar Funeral & Cremation Center located at 5987 Mid Rivers Mall Dr., St. Charles MO 63304

Per the family there will be no wake or funeral.

Son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Edward S. and Mary B. (nee Scott) DeVere.

A private inurnment will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at a later date and time.
