Donald Ransom of Marietta passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the Madison Hospital.
Memorial services will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 27, 2018 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marietta, Minnesota.
Pastor Elan Hacker will officiate at the service.
Visitation will be Friday, January 26, 2018 starting at 1:00 p.m. and with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. all at the Zahrbock Funeral Home Chapel in Madison, Minnesota.
Donald Courtwright Ransom was born on December 21, 1927 to parents Arnold and Irene (Bunting) Ransom in Marietta, MN. He was baptized in the Congregational Church Parsonage in Marietta, MN and was confirmed. Don attended school and graduated from Marietta High School in 1946. He entered the U.S. Army on October 1, 1946, served in Germany as a Personal Clerk and was discharged in February 1948.He was united in marriage to Lois “Tootie” Mae Mortenson on January 23, 1960 at Garfield Lutheran Church of rural Madison, MN. He was the Owner and President of the State Bank of Marietta from December 1948 to 1990 and was President of the 7th District Banking Association. Don loved Marietta, was a respected member of the community, knew all its history and was Mayor for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and going to breakfast on Fridays with Cliff Lund, Kelly Thompson and Byron Redepenning. Don was a loving and caring father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marietta, MN; Marietta Legion and VFW. Death came to Donald on January 13, 2018 at the Madison Hospital. He had reached the age of 90 years and 22 days. Don is survived by his daughter Nancy (Daryl) Wattenhofer of Litchfield, MN; son Corey Ransom of Marietta, MN; five grandchildren; Kelsey Wattenhofer, Jonathan Ransom, Carter Wattenhofer, Jacob Ransom and Courtney Ransom; sister Elaine Kallevig of Anoka, MN; and brother Calvin Ransom of Colorado Springs, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents Arnold and Irene Ransom; wife Tootie Ransom; brother Gene Ransom; daughter Debbie Ransom; twin daughters and twin sons. Blessed be his memory.
