Joseph Earl Perry was Grand Master of Masons (33rd degree)in Mass. - highest rank in the US - only Western Hemisphere Mason to have official part in Duke of Kent installation as England's Grand Master by King George VI, London, 1939). A Williams College and Harvard Law School graduate he was a lawyer, Newton Savings Bank president, Mass. State Legislator, Mass. Bank Commissioner, Mass. Income Tax Assessor, Treasurer and Trustee of Boston Univ., and sometime member of the faculty at Boston Univ., Northeastern Univ. and Grad. Sch. of Banking, Rutgers Univ., trustee Internat. Coll., Beirut He was President of many organizations including Nat. Assn. Supervisors State Banks, YMCA MA +RI State Assns, Phi Beta Kappa Assoc. Greater Boston and Mass. Savings Bank Life Insurance Council. Locally he was active in the Belmont Methodist church, Newton Community Chest, Belmont School Com. and Newton Rotary Club. Author many articles and brochures on law, banking and Masonry.

At home he was a "first rate" story teller and dishwasher who chopped wood and loved to travel enjoying his 99 years. He was a generous man of great faith who strongly encouraged and supported higher education. A wonderful grandpa whose memory will always be treasured.
