Financial journalist and buisnessman. He was Manager of "The Times" and Master of The Clothworkers' Company (1836-1837), one of the great twelve livery companies of the City of London, which developed out of the crafts guilds of medieval times. His love of music led him to establish "The Queen Square Musical Society" - well known at the time - at his house in Queen Square, London, where Mendelssohn once played. His cause of death was suicide.
