Raised in Kansas and Colorado, Carl joined the army in 1955. While stationed in Amarillo, he met and married Neiva Yuvonne Helton in 1959. During his Army service, he and his family lived in Junction City, KS, and El Paso, TX. He also served in Vietnam, where he earned the Purple Heart, and was stationed in Germany from 1970 to 1976. After leaving the Army, he lived in Amarillo between 1976 and 1990, then near Dallas, TX, between 1990 and 1997. He had spent the last two years of his life back in Amarillo. Survivors included: children Neiva Mae (Tem) Chambless, Carl Lee (Alicia) Barnes, Ellis Dean Barnes, Lisa Gesulga, Kevin (Delana) Barnes (all of Amarillo) and Jennifer (Dean) Edwards, Nottingham, England; brothers Benjamin Floyd Barnes pf Nebraska and Danny Barnes of Wyoming; sister Rosie Stetson Clarkson of Colorado; and 14 grandchildren. Preceding were sisters Dortha Hyde and Fern Coots, brother Richard Lee Barnes, Sr., and stepmother Delourse Barnes. Funeral services held at Friendship Baptist Church, Amarillo, Rev. Ronnie Tucker officiating.
