Ms. Abernathy was born January 25, 1942, in Kansas City.
Judy was a passionate woman- passionate about her children and her family. A devoted advocate for those who didn’t have a voice- animals, children and the developmental disabled. As a jack of all trades she excelled at multitude of endeavors from running a newspaper, to counseling troubled youth, selling real estate; equine massage and touch therapy. Judy had a zest for life and adventure- never afraid to tackle something new. She exuded passion about this world & a desire to make it a better place. Her thirst for knowledge and educating others never ceased and was apparent to everyone she touched.
She was a strong and independent woman- caring for herself, her animals and any rescues that came to her doorstep for the past 20 years.
She passed away peacefully with her daughter and son-in-law by her side Friday, January 19,, 2018.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father.
Survivors include her children, Vicki and Rob, grandchildren April, Ron, Louis and Tomo and great grandchildren Lily, Ty and Maximus; sisters Barbara and Maggie along with nieces Anne and Lee and nephews Tom, Rob and Dan.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2018, from 12:00-2:00pm, at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave. Overland Park KS. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 pm, at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
