Howard graduated from Hamburg High School, class of 1946 and later received a degree in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. He was an apprentice wood pattern maker from 1947 to 1951 and later a journeyman wood pattern maker from 1953 to 1961. Howard was an instructor at Penn State Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute from 1959 to 1966. He then worked for Black and Decker before finishing his career at Grinell Corp. where he retired from in 1994 as a pattern engineer. Howard was a former member of Chiques United Methodist Church and member of Glossbrenner United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir. He enjoyed music, playing the French horn and wood carving.
Howard is survived by his three children, Norma Jane Kachel; Jeffrey Paul (Sue) Altenderfer; and Marcia Ann (Fred) Phelps, along with 6 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held at Mount Joy Cemetery. Please no flowers.
