Son of the late John and Helia (Hill) Anderson.
Served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Marquette - John W. "Bill" Anderson, age 79, of Marquette entered eternal life on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at the D. J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans in the loving care of his family. Bill was born on December 21, 1936 in Ironwood a son of John and Helia (Hill) Anderson. As a child, Bill's family moved to Detroit where he was raised and graduated from Redford High School.

Following graduation from high school Bill enlisted in the United States Navy serving his country as a Submariner during the Korean War.

After completing his service to his country Bill was honorably discharged and returned to the Detroit area starting working for Chrysler Missile Plant. In 1960 Bill married the former Barbara Karpinen and together the couple established a home and raised four children in Redford Township, MI. Following his time at Chrysler, Bill went to work for Bendix Aerospace in Ann Arbor working as a technician before moving to Marquette in 1984. While in Marquette he worked as a service technician for a family owned business Dictations System before starting his own business A-Tech Services where he worked installing cable and telephone systems in local area businesses. In his spare time Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, dancing, going to Sunday movies and coaching little league baseball in his younger years, was an avid reader and loyal fan to the Detroit Tigers, Lions and Red Wings. Especially proud of his Finnish heritage, Bill was a member of the Finnish Center Association and was a member of the American Legion Post 44 in Marquette.

Survivors include his two daughters, Karen (Dennis) Tulpa of Redford, MI, Kim (P.J.) Specker of Marquette, MI; his son, Ken (Melisa) Anderson of Redford, MI; eight grandchildren, Jacob Anderson of Waterford, MI, Allyson Anderson of Marquette, MI, Dennis (Fiancee Jenna Bringe) Tulpa of Nashville, TN, Katie (Ryan) Moore of Novi, MI, Brian Tulpa of Redford, MI, Brett and Erin Specker of Marquette, MI and Samantha Anderson of Redford, MI.; great-granddaughter, Savannah Tulpa of Nashville, TN; his brother-in-law, Rick (Lorraine) Karpinen of Marquette, MI and Gulf Shores, AL and numerous neices and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Parents, his wife Barbara; his son, Eric Anderson; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Einar and Sylvia Karpinen; his two sisters and three brother-in-laws.

Friends may call at the Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home on Saturday, October 8, 2016 from 10:30 am until 12:00 pm. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 12:00 pm with Rev. Leon Jarvis, Presiding. A luncheon will immediately follow the service in the funeral home reception room. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the D.J. Jacobetti Activities Fund, 425 Fisher St., Marquette, MI 49855. The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the first floor east caregiving staff at the D.J. Jacobetti Home for Veterans for the wonderful care and compassion given to Bill.
