Funeral Services For Walter Smith Are Held Today
Funeral services for Walter Sterling Smith, nationally known expert in industrial safety who died at his home in Milwaukee on his fifty-fifth birthday, were held at 2 p.m. today from the P.J. Weiss mortuary Chapel, Milwaukee. The deceased was prominently known here and was a cousin of Miss Katherine and George Buchanan.
The services were conducted by the Rev. E. Leroy Dakin and members of the Association of Commerce staff acted as pallbearers. Mr. Smith was manager of the safety division of the Milwaukee Association since Oct. 15, 1926.
It was through Mr. Smith's efforts that the Milwaukee Foreman's Safety School, with an enrollment of 6,473 last year, became the largest and most successful school of its kind in the country.
The deceased was born in Kellnersville, Wis., and resided in Milwaukee for many years. He never completely recovered from a serious illness suffered in 1928. He wrote poetry and blank verse which was widely published.
Immediate surviving relatives are his wife and aged father, Mathew Hale Smith of Brillion, Wis.
