Frances Junetta Smith, daughter of Raymond Earl and Ruby Vestal Oliver Shelby, was born May 8, 1936, in Laclede County, Missouri. She departed this life Friday, April 17, 2015, in Mercy Hospital, in Lebanon, Missouri, at the age of seventy-eight years, eleven months, and nine days.
On August 7, 1955, in San Francisco, California, she was united in marriage to Ronald James Smith, and to this union four sons were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ronald, on May 8, 2011; three brothers, Lascar, William, and James; and three sisters, Jessie, Shirley, and Ann.
Frances is survived by four sons, Ron Smith, and Linda Lea Weber, of Antioch, California, Alan Smith, Kenneth Smith, and his wife, Anita, all of Lebanon, Missouri, and Gary Smith, and his wife, Robin, of Newport News, Virginia; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother-in-law, Bob Louis, of Yakima, Washington; a sister-in-law, Barbara Coats, of Loomis, California; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
She was born and raised in Laclede County, Missouri, and then moved with her family to San Francisco, California, where she graduated from high school. After she and Ronald were married, they made their home in California, until moving to Competition, Missouri in 1978. In addition to being a devoted homemaker to her husband and family, Frances also opened and operated the Circle R Store and Café in Competition for several years. The family eventually returned to California, and then once again returned to the Lebanon, Missouri area.
Frances had professed her faith in Christ and was a member of First Baptist Church in Lebanon.
In her spare time she enjoyed playing Bingo, and knitting. She also liked to do babysitting for her family and friends. Her family was very important to her and she especially enjoyed having time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Frances was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and was a caring neighbor and friend. We celebrate her life and know that her family and friends will cherish the wonderful memories she created for them during her seventy-eight years.
