Sheila Cynthia Hightower Allen’s candle of life began to flicker, grew dim, and went out on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at University Hospital. She was born in San Antonio, Texas. However, she resided in Augusta the majority of her life, and graduated from Glenn Hills High School in 1971. Sheila went on to acquire a Masters degree in education from Augusta College. This enabled her to have a fulfilling career in adult education. Sheila was the oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. James (Eva) Hightower. She was a member of Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. Sheila was preceded in death by both parents; a sister, Lachelle Craighead; and a very special niece, Tamesha Resse Jennings. She is survived by her husband, Benjamin; sons, James Benjamin and Jamarcus Carrington both of Augusta; daughter, Pamela Craighead, Atlanta, Ga.; sisters, Pamela (Jerry) Reese and Shontel Lacey both of Augusta; mother-in-law, Dorothy Allen of Augusta; sisters-in law, Earnestine (Donald) Ivey, Atlanta, Ga. and Brenda Bethea, Hephzibah; brothers-in-law, Larry (Karlene) Allen of Augusta and Dosye (Yolanda) Allen of Hephzibah; and a host of grandchildren, great grand children, nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends. The family will receive visitors on Friday, February 2nd, at the funeral home from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 2pm at Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Clyde Hill, Sr. is the pastor. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Garden. In lieu of flowers, it was Sheila’s request that donations be made to an education program that is making a difference within the community.
