Patty fought a courageous battle with lung cancer and faced her illness with incredible optimism and strong faith in God. She lost her battle on January 17, 2018. She died surrounded by her loving family. Patty was born in 1933 and grew up in St. Paul where she attended Sacred Heart, Nativity Catholic School and St. Joe's Academy. She met and married Joe Sturdivant and raised a family of five before his death in 1987, they had a 34 year marriage. During that time Patty worked at Macalester College for 20 years as a Secretary in the Education Department and Teacher Placement. She did a lot of volunteering at Immaculate Heart of Mary School, Derham Hall High School and St. Thomas Academy. Patty loved to entertain family and friends and had a passion for decorating. She married Mike Abbott in 1989 they spent 6 months of the year in Florida where they were avid golfers and entertained visiting family.
