Dr. Green received his B.S. Degree in Pharmacy from Samford University 1957 and his Doctor of Medicine Degree from the University of Alabama 1966. After an internship, he served as a general medical officer in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era. He returned to Mobile and completed a four-year residency in General Surgery at the University of South Alabama Medical Center. Dr. Green entered the practice of General Surgery in 1973 and practiced in Mobile County for over thirty years. He was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and the National Board of Medical Examiners.
Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 45 years- Peggy Bennett Green; children, Nancy Volovecky (Jerry), Patti McMullen (Karl), Mary Green, Timothy Green, Ben Green (Tara), Beth Gibson (Chris); Grandchildren, Joshua Durden, Katie Keisacker, Daniel Volovecky, Lexie Vanderbilt, Jan Volovecky, Mary Katheryn Gibson, David McMullen, Will Green, Wyatt Green, Wade Green, Caroline Gibson, Ellie Gibson, Thomas Green; Great-grandchildren: Caleb Cash, Gordy Savell, Thomas Keisacker, Kaylyn Durden, Emersyn Vanderbilt, Raleigh Durden, Oliver Trest; a sister, Elizabeth Faye Lee (Johnny) and other nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. And faithful, constant companions Duke and Tigre.
Dr. Green was preceded in death by his First wife: Janis Purvis Green; his parents, J.W. Green and Cleo Rodgers Green; his siblings, Clyde Wade Green, Warren Lowell "Bookie" Green, Wayne Green, Nancy Carolyn Green, and James Talmadge "Jimmy" Green.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Mobile, Alabama. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. at the church, Interment will follow in Mt.Vernon Methodist Cemetery, Mount Vernon, Alabama.
