VERONA - Mrs. Bobbie Jean Gregory Stewart, 87, died Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at Magnolia Manor in Tupelo. The oldest of the Gregory girls, she was born February 22, 1930, in Chickasaw County, to Willie R. Gregory and Laudis Holland Gregory. She was the wife of James D. "Sonny" Stewart, who died in 1998.
She taught kindergarten at Verona Elementary, and later was a Teacher's Assistant at Thomas Street Elementary, where she worked until her retirement. She always treated all of her students as if they were her own children.
Bobbie was a member of First Baptist Church of Verona. Her greatest joy was her family. She was extremely proud of her nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. She felt her brothers-in-law were the finest men she knew. She was never happier than at a family gathering. She loved working in her yard, growing flowers, and azaleas.
A celebration of life service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, February 10, 2018, in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Dr. David Hamilton officiating. Private burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will be Friday, 4 until 7 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. until service time.
Survivors include her two daughters, Lynn Stewart Clark of Pulaski, Tennessee, and Nancy Stewart Beard of Tupelo; her sisters, Ann Hamilton of Tupelo, Dorothy Vaughan (Brooks) of Shannon, Toy Lane Weeks (Cecil) of Tupelo, and Carol Gregory McDonald of Birmingham, Alabama; her brother, Robert Gregory of Birmingham, Alabama; grandchildren, Leslie McCharen, Allison McCharen, and Lee Beard, all of Tupelo; a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her late husband; her sister, Brenda Allison; son-in-law, Steve Clark; brother-in-law, Ray Hamilton; and special friend, Bill Dozier.
