Stuntz, C-T artist, is dead at 73

William H. Stuntz, 73, Russia Rd., well known in Masonic circle and a member of the advertising staff of The Elyria Chronicle - Telegram, died at 8:30 a.m. today in Elyria Memorial Hospital, 12 days after he was taken ill while at work.

Mr. Stuntz was an artist, especially in the field of display advertising. He was a graduate of the Chicago School of Art and later taught sign painting and maintained his own shop for a time.

He was with the John Lersch Co., department store for 18 years as its widow trimmer and sign display man. With the Ohio Public Service (Ohio Edison) Co. for 24 years, he won several prizes for best widow displays in the division. Upon his retirement at OE he became associated with the C-T.

Mr. Stuntz Masonic affiliations included King Solomon Lodge No. 56; El Rey Grotto, of which he was a charter member and band manager for nine years; Al Koran Shrine; Lorain County Shrine Club; Scottish Rite, Valley of Cleveland and the Grand Cross of Color. He was a Past Watchman of Shepherds, White Shrine of Jerusalem and a Past Patron of Elyria Chapter No. 165 Order of Eastern Star. A member of the First Methodist Church, he was a member of the Men's Club of the church.

Mr. Stuntz was born in Wheeling, W. Va., June 22, 1892 and lived in Elyria 48 years.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth, with whom he would have marked his 50th wedding anniversary on Oct, 29; a daughter, Mrs. Howard (Kaye) Ahlgrim, Elyria; three grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Helen Connors and two brothers, Edward and Harold, all of Warwood, Wheeling, W. Va.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Sudro-Curtis Funeral Home with Dr. Charles W. Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery.

King Solomon Lodge will conduct Masonic services at 7 p.m. tomorrow in the funeral home where friends may call tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
