Mrs. Emma Cora Byrd, wife of Abel James Byrd, of Keller, died Friday, April 23rd after a short illness. Mrs. Byrd was the daughter of the late Benjamin W. and Emma Susan Mears and was 57 years old. Mrs. Mears was a very estimable lady and loved by all who knew her.
After funeral services conducted by Rev. H. L. Hastings, assisted by Rev. J. H. Osborne and Rev. J. T. Hoskins, she was laid to rest in the old family burying ground at Keller, Va.
She is survived by her husband, two sons, Dr. G. Bentley Byrd, of Norfolk, and Austin J. Byrd, of Keller; one sister, Mrs. Samuel Ames, of Pungoteague, and five brothers, Commander John D. Mears, U.S.N. Philippine Islands, Otho F., Eastville, Charles B., Pungoteague, Leonard C. and Harry E. of Keller.
