Manitowoc - Robert C. Schmitt, age 80, passed away Friday, February 2, 2018 with his family by his side.

He was born on November 12, 1937 in Manitowoc, WI, son of the late Karl and Lydia (Kope) Schmitt. Robert served in the United States Air Force from 1953 until 1957. On January 24, 1959 he married Judith La Fleur in Manitowoc. Robert was employed with Manitowoc Cranes for 42 years as a Journeyman Machine Operator until his retirement in 2000. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with family and friends.

Robert is survived by his wife of 59 years: Judith Schmitt, Manitowoc; three sons and one daughter-in-law: Randall and Lynn Schmitt, Tisch Mills, Michael Schmitt, San Diego, CA, and Gregory Schmitt, Manitowoc; one daughter and son-in-law: Cindy and Michael Granger, Manitowoc; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Carol Brunner, Manitowoc, Joyce and Dale Novak, Pembine, and Dale Bergene, Manitowoc. Nieces, nephews other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers-in-law: Betty and Harley Glover, Janice Bergene, and Roy Brunner.

A private graveside service was held at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Graveside Military Rites were accorded by the V.F.W. Otto Oas Post# 659.
