He joined the United States Army on December 23, 1943 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas and was honorably discharged November 4, 1945.
Ludwig and his wife, Adalyn were married February 15, 1945 in Wichita, Kansas at the St. Mary's Cathedral by Father A. J. Felling. Their union was blessed with three sons and one daughter.
In 1949, he graduated from Kansas University in Lawrence, Kansas with a Mechanical Engineering Degree. Ludwig was employed at Boeing, IBM, Livermore Lab and retired from Lockheed after working there 25 years.
He had many hobbies; loved square dancing, private pilot and flying his own airplane, car clubs and volunteering with the church.
