New York political and military leader. He graduated from Yale in 1854 and became an attorney in 1857. Husted served in several local and state offices, including Westchester County School Commissioner, state Deputy Insurance Superintendent, Harbor Master of the Port of New York, and state Emigration Commissioner. He served in the New York Assembly from 1869 to 1892, and was Speaker in 1874, 1876, 1878, 1886, and 1887 to 1890. Husted was also active in the National Guard and attained the rank of Major General in 1873.
